Photos from Peak City Puppy's post

Our dog walker and pet sitter, Brandy who has a bachelor’s degree in wildlife management and 10 years of experience working with wildlife, exotics and domestic animals captured this picture right here in Western Wake County while walking a dog.

She says:
"I was walking a dog past a pond and noticed a woman throw some pieces of bread out of her car window for the geese there. As they all ran to get the bread, I noticed this single goose with this deformity in its wing. This condition is called Angel Wing, and this can happen when fed an improper diet for too long. This condition renders the animal unable to fly, which will make it harder to avoid predators and to find food. While I understand people want to feed the geese and ducks, I wanted to offer some healthier alternative options, rather than bread. Feeding geese and ducks cracked corn, halved grapes, or watermelon would help prevent further animals from developing this condition."

We love your pets, but we also love the wildlife around us. We thank Brandy for sharing this information with us and hope it provides our flourishing community with the knowledge of a healthier alternative to feeding bread to the geese at the ponds, so they stick around for our enjoyment!
